100 million people might be thrown into poverty
Shafaq News / the world bank published its new report in August 2020 which is viewed by Shafaq news agency, the report showed that "100 million people could be forced to poverty due to the economic impact of the Covid-19".
It’s added that "agricultural goods that people obtain come from 570 million farms, most of them are small ones located in developing countries, and they are run by families".
"Every year, nearly 600 million people become ill from eating contaminated food, which costs low and middle-income countries 110 billion dollars of losses and medical expenses annually", the report revealed.
Also, the World Bank indicated that "the food system provides food for the world's population, whose number have passed the double during the past fifty years", stressing that "it is no longer on the path that would help us achieve sustainable development goals regarding hunger, poverty, health, the use of land, and Climate Change. "
The World Bank count 45 low-income countries, most of them are in Africa, (low-income countries are those their monthly income per capita is below 600$)
It is noteworthy that, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning announced on February 16 that it “carried out a survey at the end of 2018, which showed that the poverty rate decreased to 20%, after recording 22.5% in 2014”.
