Barzani reassures minorities from Italy: If you need a refuge, you can come to Kurdistan

Shafaq News / In an interview with Italian TV2000 channel, the Prime Minister of Kurdistan government, Masrour Barzani spoke on the sidelines of his visit to the Vatican Pope about the coexistence among religions and sects in the region.

Barzani said that "the meeting that brought us together with His Holiness the Pope is a matter of pride for us and we thanked and asked him for support and pray for stability for the region and our people."

He added that "Kurdistan has become a safe haven for many people who have fled from the grip of ISIS," adding, "We are proud that we have been able to receive one million and 100,000 people, 80,000 of whom are Syrian refugees, and this has all been seen by the Pope and he has sufficient information and good knowledge."

On the situation of minorities in Kurdistan Region, Barzani said, "Kurdistan is a land of peace and coexistence over the past centuries, and we want to continue on this path and remain like this.

He added, "We do not call people as minorities, but rather we call them people of other beliefs, and we reassure those who need a shelter for them. You can always come to Kurdistan."
