Shafaq News- Wasit

Wasit province in southeastern Iraq holds diverse economic resources, including significant oil potential, an Iraqi lawmaker told Shafaq News on Monday, urging swift steps to establish a Wasit Oil Company to develop fields and create jobs.

Uday Al-Zamili pointed to recent reports highlighting promising sites, including the “strategic” Al-Zafariya field, which contains light crude reserves capable of producing tens of thousands of barrels per day if fully developed. He said Wasit lawmakers have met across political lines and agreed to unify efforts to support the province’s agricultural, energy, and service sectors, adding that the next phase will involve “high-level” parliamentary action to advance strategic projects, alongside calls for a budget aligned with development needs and measures to boost investment and utilize idle resources.
