A strike in Tehran targeted the house of Kamal Kharrazi, head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and a former foreign minister, resulting in wounding him and killing his wife, Iranian media reported on Wednesday.

No official statement has yet been issued by Iranian authorities confirming his precise medical condition. Kharrazi, 81, is considered a key figure in shaping Iran’s foreign policy. He served as foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 and currently heads an advisory body that provides recommendations to the country’s top leadership.

Later, the New York Times revealed that Kharrazi had been overseeing coordination with Pakistan ahead of a potential meeting with US Vice President J.D. Vance. Iranian officials quoted by the newspaper said the targeting of Kharrazi is viewed as an attempt to disrupt diplomatic efforts.
