KDP demands the formation of a components force in Kirkuk
Shafaq News / Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) bloc in the Iraqi parliament demanded on Wednesday to form a force of all components to protect security in the disputed Kirkuk governorate after repeated attacks by ISIS.
The bloc said in a statement today that "once again, terrorism targets a new village in Kirkuk governorate resulting in a number of Kurdish martyrs and wounded in Jakhmakh village, which belongs to Dibis district."
The statement condemned what it called as “such terrorist operations against defenseless civilians, which target brotherly coexistence in Kirkuk province.
The statement called for "the concerned authorities and security forces to provide adequate protection for the areas that contain terrorist cells and increase the number of forces deployed in these areas and we demand the formation of joint forces and on the basis of a real representation of the components of the province in these forces that can restore security and stability to them."
In its statement, the bloc also demanded "the formation of a representative committee that includes the representatives of Kirkuk to investigate the reasons for the recurrence of such terrorist operations in these areas."
This claim comes hours after two ISIS attacks, the first in which four members of Kirkuk Mobilization forces were injured in al- Rashad area, and the second, after ISIS forces stormed a village in Dibis district in Kirkuk, and opened fire on the people, killing four and wounding others.
According to a security source victims of the second attack are of all Kurdish nationalists.
The attacks of ISIS militants have increased in the past few months, particularly in the governorates of Kirkuk, Salahuddin and Diyala.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over ISIS by reclaiming all of its territory, which was estimated to be about a third of the country’s area invaded by the organization in the summer of 2014, but the organization still maintains sleeper cells in large areas of Iraq and launches attacks in varying periods.
