Kurdistan refuses IHEC request to delay the local elections

, confirming its intention to hold them in its date.

According to a government statement reported for " Shafaq News " , that the Minister of Kurdistan Region for coordination affairs between the government and the parliament, Saad Khalid ; revealed that IHEC has responded to the message of Kurdistan Region and calls for the postponement of provincial elections in Kurdistan Region .

The statement added that the government will not agree to such a request in any way, stressing on conducting it in its scheduled date.

Khalid said , according to the government statement , that the scheduled date of holding the elections , which was approved by the Government of the Region was based on a proposal submitted by IHEC, adding that the proposal demanded to hold provincial elections with parliamentary elections in Iraq .

Khaled explained, “We hope that we meet with IHEC on this issue ," pointing out that “the government will inform IHEC about its rejection formally on the postponement of provincial elections in Kurdistan Region .

This comes at a time when KRG has sent a formal letter to IHEC calling for the provincial councils elections of Kurdistan Region on 30/04/2013 and according to former IHEC, which corresponds to the Iraqi parliament elections , but the UN High Commissioner responded to the request of Kurdistan Region that those elections to be postponed to next August .
