Senior Iraq electricity official jailed for bribery

The director general of Iraq’s state-owned Middle Euphrates Electricity Distribution Company received a six-year prison sentence for allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for releasing payments owed to a company, the Federal Integrity Commission announced on Monday.
The Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued the sentence and handed the same term to an employee at the company, while also fining the two defendants 10 million Iraqi dinars ($7,600) after finding the evidence sufficient for conviction.
Earlier today, Iraq’s Electricity Ministry removed 11 officials from key power plants and departments, including the directors of the Al-Hartha and Al-Nasiriya thermal power plants.
