A major Home Office operation took place in the Westcountry last week.

Immigration Enforcement was contacted by Avon & Somerset Police at about 8.35pm on Friday, July 21.

The call was made after police officers attended an incident on Leighton Lane Industrial Estate, Evercreech, Shepton Mallet.

Police officers arrested seven men for suspected immigration offences. Two, aged 18 and 21, presented themselves as being from Iraq and a third, aged 19, from Iran.

Four other men, three who presented themselves as being from Iran and one from Iraq, were passed to social services to be independently age assessed.

A spokesperson for the Home Office added: "The Home Office will progress the cases of all seven people in accordance with immigration rules. Where someone has no right to remain in the UK, we will take action to remove them.

"Immigration Enforcement is an operational directorate within the Home Office responsible for enforcing immigration law."
