New Zealand celebrates 100 days without Covid-19
Shafaq news/ The Ministry of Health today reported no new Covid-19 cases in New Zealand.
It’s been 100 days since the last Covid-19 case was found locally from an unknown source.
The Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield acknowledged the milestone, but urged caution.
“Achieving 100 days without community transmission is a significant milestone. However, as we all know, we can't afford to be complacent," Dr Bloomfield said.
“We have seen overseas how quickly the virus can re-emerge and spread in places where it was previously under control, and we need to be prepared to quickly stamp out any future cases in New Zealand." he added.
He urged people to continue seeking advice if they had Covid-19 symptoms. He also urged people to continue keeping track of their movements.
Many praised the strict lockdown measures imposed by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, as it subjected the country to one of the most restrictive lockdowns for a period of four weeks.
Meanwhile, the United States has passed 5 million confirmed cases of coronavirus, and more than 162,000 deaths.
