Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) fighters repelled an ISIS attack on a security position in Tuz Khurmatu district in Iraq’s eastern Saladin province on Sunday, prompting a joint Iraqi Army-PMF operation to pursue the attackers.

The PMF’s 63rd Brigade said its forces forced the attackers to retreat into rugged terrain. No casualties were reported.

A security source told Shafaq News that Iraqi Army and PMF forces launched a large-scale search operation around the mountains and nearby areas to track the attackers, identify their route and possible hideouts, and prevent further movement.

The 63rd Brigade is a Turkmen PMF formation under the Northern and East Tigris Operations Command. Iraqi forces have repeatedly targeted ISIS cells across the Tuz Khurmatu-Kirkuk belt, including suspected hideouts in the Balkana Mountains in January and Wadi Zghaitoun in Kirkuk on August 17.
