A Trench of 45km around Karbala
Traffic continues from and to Karbala through points of entry that are subjected to guard. watchtowers , barbed wire , cameras and extending wires are being built, while tens of thousands of people fled from the agricultural area, which stretches west of Anbar province under the control of "ISIS" that they use in transit to its strongholds in Syria and areas in Babil and Karbala provinces.
An earlier proposal to build a concrete wall has been ruled out on the grounds that it is unnecessary and represents a symbol and perhaps raises a problem.
Colonel Shather al-Enezi said "The trench extends from al-Majara bridge to al-Jurff as the separator between us and Anbar province and we put towers and control points," adding in the Iraqi dialect, "we are brothers Shiites and Sunnis , we have no problem with them.. But we are concerned from saboteurs and terrorists out of Shiites and Sunnis. "
The trench and the dirt barricade passes next to it, as more than half of it has been finished through the territory of the clans.
For his part, the Second Deputy Chairman of Karbala provincial council , Ali al-Mayali, said after recent operations on Jurff al-Naser and the concentration of terrorists in Amiriyat al-Fallujah desert and the importance of this region to save Karbala security, local government considered digging a trench and the dirt barricade on the border adjacent to Anbar province . "
Hundreds of militants from ISIS organization are besieging Amiriyat al-Fallujah town, 20 km to the west of the trench and adjacent to the administrative borders of Karbala. as gunmen have also a strong presence in the desert of the town.
Some of Iraq's population fear that digging the trench would be a temporarily security fortified, but a new way of expelling them from areas in central Iraq under sectarian addresses.
But Mayali denied this and said, "This area is a desert area where there are no people and no palm plantations .. There are a lot of liars who say that Karbala is separating themselves from Anbar province, on the basis of identity and not allowing people to enter."
First Deputy Chairman of Karbala provincial Council , Jassim al-Fatlawi said "it is not the perfect solution, but this is what exists now. There were security advisers who made the decision and we agreed to it. But it is not the perfect solution nor is the solution that can save Karbala security, but this is what available to us. "
Fatlawi added "for a certain percentage .. Yes .. it will protect us from Katyusha rockets and mortars.”
He said that ISIS progress last year have raised speculation about dividing Iraq into Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish regions, but to achieve such a goal it requires the transfer of large number of population from their locations to other areas..
The tribal leaders and officials deny that digging the trench is designed to reshape the composition of the population.
ISIS organization has entered cities of Fallujah and Ramadi in Anbar province, then expanded to control large tracts of land to maintain its momentum during last summer across the Syrian border.
