The Syrian government said on Monday that Jordanian airstrikes in southern Syria had caused civilian casualties, including children, denying that the military operation had been coordinated with Damascus.

A Shafaq News correspondent reported that seven members of one family, including children, were killed in airstrikes on Latf village in the Lajat area of northeastern Daraa.

The reported deaths came as Jordan's Royal Air Force announced strikes on "terrorist hideouts" in southern Syria, following a deadly attack on a Christian church in Jordan last Friday.

In a statement, the Jordanian military said the operation had destroyed positions belonging to the groups and killed or wounded several of their members. It described the strikes as retaliation for the attack on Hamoud Church in Karak Governorate.

Earlier on Monday, Jordanian security forces arrested three suspects in connection with the October 23 attack on the Greek Orthodox church, which killed nine people and injured 40 others, according to Jordan's Public Security Directorate.

The attack occurred during a funeral service in the village of Hamoud, where gunmen opened fire on mourners inside and outside the church before fleeing.
