Israeli airstrikes and ground incursions intensified across southern Lebanon over the past two days, with reports of raids, demolitions, and drone attacks near the border.

Field sources told Shafaq News that at dawn on Tuesday, an Israeli force crossed into the border town of Aitaroun and demolished three houses in its southeastern neighborhood. The Israeli army later said it had destroyed several buildings overnight in southern Lebanon, claiming they were used as “terrorist infrastructure.”

Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said troops carried out a night operation in the village of Houla, targeting structures allegedly used by armed groups. He noted that a previous sweep in the area last month uncovered explosive devices and weapons caches, calling such sites violations of the Israel-Lebanon agreement.

In a separate incident, an Israeli drone dropped a bomb on the roof of the Civil Defense Center belonging to the Health Authority in the town of Taybeh, southern Lebanon. Local media also said Israeli artillery fired a shell at one of the neighborhoods in the border town of Aita al-Shaab, causing no casualties.

The escalation follows a series of Israeli strikes on Monday that hit several areas in the south and Beqaa, including Jarmaq, Rihan, Qotrani, and the outskirts of Nabi Sheet and Hermel. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said one person was killed and three others wounded.

The strikes came shortly after President Joseph Aoun said the Lebanese army should be the sole force exercising state authority across the country’s territory and borders, stressing that the military’s duty is to uphold national sovereignty, end Israeli violations, and secure withdrawal from occupied areas through political means.

UNIFIL spokesperson Danny Gafari told local media that since the November 2024 ceasefire, the mission has documented more than 7,000 Israeli air violations and 2,400 incidents north of the Blue Line, calling the situation “a source of deep concern.”

Lebanese authorities say more than 300 people have been killed and over 650 wounded since the hostilities began.
