Israel claims killing Hezbollah commander in Beirut
Shafaq News- Middle East
The Israeli army on Wednesday claimed responsibility for killing Yusuf Ismail Hashem, commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, in an airstrike targeting him in Beirut.
Spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the southern front is responsible for planning and carrying out attacks and engaging Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, adding that Hashem oversaw rocket and drone launches toward Israeli territory and led reconstruction efforts within the group.
Hashem assumed leadership of the southern front after the killing of senior commander Ali Karaki alongside former Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in September 2024, he noted.
