Russia: Kurdish units start withdrawing pursuant to the Sochi Agreement

Shafaq News/The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Vershinin said that Kurdish units began to withdraw on Thursday from the border areas in Syria under the Sochi agreement between Moscow and Ankara.

"The Kurdish fighters are starting to withdraw their formations from the border areas adjacent to Turkey, and we are pleased to note that the agreements reached in Sochi are being implemented," Vershinin said, noting that "everything is being implemented."

Russian President, Vladimir Putin and Turkish President ,Recep Tayyip Erdogan adopted on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding setting joint steps between the two countries to settle the situation in northeastern Syria.

Under the memorandum, Russian military police units and Syrian border guards will enter areas adjacent to the Turkish operation "Spring of Peace".

The memorandum specifies a 150-hour period in which the YPG should be the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to withdraw from a 30-kilometer-deep area adjacent to the Turkish border.
