Shafaq News/ The Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani issued an open letter today, Tuesday, in the thirty-fifth anniversary of the aerial bombardment of Zewa camp by the former regime, stressing that this deed clearly indicates the atrocity of the former regime and the injustice of the people of Kurdistan.
"Thirty-five years have passed, today, since the bombardment of Zewa camp. On the ninth of June 1985, the Ba'athist regime used eight Sukhoi aircrafts to brutally bombard the refugee camp of Zewa, killing innocent women and children".
"Zewa disaster is one of the black pages in the records of the state of Iraq, that will never be forgotten", Barzani stressed that, "the screams of the injured and burnt body parts of the victims, are witnesses on the atrocity of the Iraqi regime in that era and the oppression over the Kurdish nation."
Barzani added, "The resilience and heroism of the refugees in Zewa, Mrs. Amina and other hundreds of Kurdish people, are a clear message to everyone: The enemy, no matter how cruel and armed, will never be able to undermine the will of liberation of the Kurdish nation".
On this tragic reminder, Barzani saluted the lives of the victims of Zewa and, "all the victims of the path of freedom", and also saluted, "the sacrifices and the courage of the Kurdish nation".
On his part, the President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, tweeted, "We remember and honor the victims of June 9, 1985 attack against civilians in the Zewa refugee camp. Dozens of children, women and men were perished in the barbaric attack carried out by the former Baath regime".
It is worth noting that Zewa camp housed the Kurdish people who sought refuge in Iran, after September's revolution setback due to "Algeria agreement" between Iran and Iraq in 1975.
