Shafaq News / Bêr Diyan Jaafar, Director of the Department of Migration and Displacement and Crisis Response in Dohuk, announced on Monday a decline in assistance provided by the United Nations Refugee Agency to Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan region since the beginning of 2023.

Jaafar informed Shafaq News Agency that the UN's role in aid provision encompassed various aspects, including electricity, healthcare, education, and water, noting that it involved waste removal from within refugee and displaced persons camps in Dohuk.

Presently, this humanitarian aid is being delivered through the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government.

He highlighted that there are more than 110,000 Syrian refugees in Dohuk distributed across several camps throughout the province.

Many Kurdish residents from within Syria fled after the invasion by ISIS in 2014. Armed conflicts among various parties and political factions in extensive areas of Syria further compelled them to settle in the provinces of the Kurdistan Region.
