Turkish bombardment ignites fire in Agricultural lands and forests in Zakho
Shafaq News/ The Civil Defense Department in Duhok Governorate announced today, Wednesday, that large fires have broken out in pastures and orchards at the borders of Batifa district, northern Zakho district.
The media official of the Civil Defense Department, Lieutenant Colonel Bewar Abdulaziz, told Shafaq News agency that clashes took place on Tuesday at the borders of Batifa district between the Turkish army and PKK fighters led to the outbreak of fires in thousands of dunums of farms, pastures and forests at the border of the district.
Bewar added, "Firefighting teams were not able to extinguish the fires due to the Turkish air and artillery bombardment".
It is noteworthy that, in mid-June 2020, Turkey launched a military operation to pursue PKK fighters and headquarters in the areas northern Kurdistan region.
