The two main Kurdish parties to have a unified position of the election law
Shafaq News / The election institutions of the two parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, held a meeting on Saturday in Al-Sulaymaniyah, in which they discussed early elections in Iraq and the amendment of the election law.
After the meeting, the two sides held a press conference in which the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party delegation, Khosro Gorran, said, "The current election law is not clear until now despite voting on it by the House of Representatives, but there is an article in it, Article 15, the sixth paragraph that divide the governorate into electoral districts."
"What is important for us is that the Kurdish parties have a unified position regarding any law that is proposed in the House of Representatives, and has a relationship with the future of the Kurdistan Region and the regions covered by Article 140 of the Constitution," he said.
"What we are striving to do is not to lose the Kurdish indentity of these areas, and to strengthen the position of the Kurds in the House of Representatives, and to do our best to increase the number of our seats in the parliament," Gorran continued.
