Shafaq News/ On Thursday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani praised the "historic" relationship between the Region and Iran, reaffirming his commitment to preventing the use of Kurdish land to threaten Iran’s security.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is currently visiting Erbil, President Barzani said, "We have shared cultural ties with Iran," describing the first visit of an Iranian president to Erbil as "historic."

He added, "In our meetings with the Iranian president, we discussed enhancing bilateral relations, especially in the security sector."

"Yes, there are some issues, but we are determined to resolve them; the KRI is ready to strengthen relations with Iran at all levels."

For his part, the Iranian president stated, "We are here to strengthen ties with Iraq and the Region and to address the challenges we face."

Earlier today, President Pezeshkian was warmly welcomed at Erbil International Airport by President Barzani and key Kurdish officials in a formal ceremony. Following this, he engaged with Kurdistan's leader Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to tackle crucial security, economic, and political issues.

This visit to Erbil follows his high-level talks in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, President Abdul Latif Rashid, and other federal leaders.
