Shafaq News / The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) confirmed, on Thursday, that one of its most prominent leaders had been killed in a Turkish attack north of Erbil, which also killed two Iraqi officers, and caused a diplomatic crisis with Baghdad.

In a statement, the party stated that the Turkish bombing had caused the death of Agit Garzan, responsible for Khawakurk axis.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a strongly worded note to the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad, on the background of the airstrikes, in which the ministry condemned Ankara for such "vicious attacks", calling on the Turkish side to hold the perpetrators accountable.

For its part, the Iraqi government canceled the visit of the Turkish Defense Minister to Baghdad, as well as all visits scheduled for Turkish officials at present.

Turkey has recently intensified its aerial and artillery shelling on border areas within Kurdistan Region, since the beginning of this week. Ankara says it is targeting the PKK militants.
