Kurdistan to build nine dams in the region

Shafaq News / The Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources in Kurdistan government, Begard Talabani, announced on Tuesday that the ministry has prepared a program to build Nine large water dams in the region in the future, referring to the construction of one of those dams on the Little Zab River in Pshdar district.

 Talabani added in a statement she made to reporters today, "the capacity of the dam to be built on the little Zab is around four million cubic meters ans will reduce the risks of water scarcity if it is cut by Iran", indicating that the ministry, "is discussing With the federal government of Iraq the process of building those nine dams".

 Talabani explained, "according to the statistics available with the ministry, Kurdistan Region annually produces 4000 tons of fish. 2000 tons of which are produced from fish breeding projects and 2000 tons by fishing from rivers and lakes", noting that, "two types of fish are produced in the region: Carp and Salmon". 

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Kurdistan Region released today, Tuesday, 120,000 juvenile fish in "Darband" lake in Rania district of Raperin administration.

 The ministry had announced in mid-December 2019 that the regional government had agreed to resume work on building 11 dams.
