US embassy in Iraq issues a security alert to its citizens

Shafaq News / The US embassy in Iraq announced on Saturday the cancellation of visa interviews and services for its citizens at the United States consulate in Erbil city, the capital of Kurdistan Region, temporarily.

The embassy said in a statement today that "due to the increasing regional tensions and following the precautionary procedures, all visa and US citizenship service appointments will be canceled at the US Consulate General in Erbil from 15 to 19 March 2020.

The statement added, "The applicants must reschedule their appointments via the Internet using the available dates. US citizens in Kurdistan Region of Iraq who need emergency services can communicate via email to [email protected]."

"The United States Embassy in Baghdad is still closed to serve the auditors. The citizens of the United States in various regions of Iraq must contact [email protected] to obtain emergency assistance," the statement added.
