Shafaq News / The U.S. Congressional Study Group of the U.S. Congress, advised to request a report on the long-term threats posed by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and other Iranian-backed Iraqi militias that are fighting against the Islamic State (ISIS).

A report by the committee showed that the number of militia elements supported by Iran in both Syria and Iraq is up to 100,000, while the number of ISIS fighters at its peak did not exceed the barrier of 33 000 fighters, according to the Pentagon.

The committee said the report to Congress should include the following: The number of Iran-backed militias that have benefited from U.S. security support, and any militias that threaten the United States or work with other terrorist organizations.

It should be noted that the committee also requested the necessity of placing long-term threats that may arise from the strategy of working with Iran to combat ISIS, as well as revealing contacts between PMF , the rest of terrorist groups and groups affiliated to Iran, in addition to PMF threat to US national security, Israel, . Kurdistan Region , Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, and the rest of the partners in the region.
