The Green Zone under attack

Shafaq News / A security source said on Wednesday night that the heavily fortified Green Zone -in the center of the capital Baghdad- was targeted with a Katyusha missile attack.

According to preliminary information reported by the source to Shafaq News Agency, one Katyusha missile landed in the Green Zone, igniting a fire in the grass of an empty area near the US embassy; civil defense teams immediately rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The Security Media Cell said in a statement that the attack did not result in any significant losses, since the missile was launched from vicinity of Al-Shaab international stadium.

The Green Zone, which nests the headquarters of the government, the parliament and foreign missions, was attacked anonymously by Katyusha rockets several times.
