Statistic: Halabja infrastructure destroyed by 100 % as a result of chemical attacks
Statement of Sulaimaniyah province reported for " Shafaq News " mentioned that “ the infrastructure of Halabja and its sub-districts such as Sirwan , Khurmal . Beyara and Sayed Sadek and its villages had been completely destroyed by 100 % following the chemical bombardment that hit the city on 16 of March 1988.
The province noted to the destruction of 24 thousand and 804 buildings and houses in addition to the destruction of 112 schools, 32 hospitals and 216 village , water systems , electricity and roads as well as the displacement of 139 thousand and 472 people from the district who remained alive .
The province said that the Regional government have conducted reconstruction and construction operations of Halabja and its sub-districts as well as 154 affiliated villages .
According to the province , the population of Halabja is about 104 thousand inhabitants currently and comprises of 101 government institutions .
Kurdistan revived yesterday the 26th anniversary of the bombing on the city with chemical weapons conducted by the former regime that had left thousands of people dead in 5 minutes , as well as injuring about 10 thousands of them in subsequent years while thousands of people still suffer from the effects of toxic gases .
The event has been revived this year in conjunction with the ratification by President of Kurdistan Region , Massoud Barzani to convert to Halabja district in Kurdistan to a province ,the fourth in Kurdistan and 19 in Iraq .
