Over the years that followed the fall of the former regime, Sunnis say that they have been marginalized by successive governments, as well as the continued targeting over anti-terrorism laws and de-Baathification.

Nujaifi said in a statement reported for "Shafaq News" that "the project has become an urgent need for the region and Sunnis cannot stay within the previous contexts anymore , Whether before the restoration of their land by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant organization “ ISIL “or after it."

He explained that "the Sunni areas are rich in resources that are not invested, there are 15 oil fields discovered but not used in Nineveh province alone and 40 geological complexes awaits exploration in Anbar giant gas fields, in addition to the existing wealth of water and agriculture."

He added, "With the growing conviction among the general masses of the Sunnis to establish the region but the dispute is whether Sunnis prefer regions of the provinces or one region to their provinces that has wide powers to the provinces."

Nujaifi has accused on Tuesday "bad" officers in the intelligence and the interior and defense ministries of causing the fall of cities and regions in the province, by ISIL militants .

ISIL militants and their allies have controlled last month on the regions and cities in the Iraqi province of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Diyala and Salahuddin, after the withdrawal of the Iraqi army from them.
