Nujaifi calls Board of Commissioners to reconsider their resignation

The members of the Board of Commissioners of the High Independent Electoral Commission (HIEC) submitted on Tuesday mass resignation to the President of the Council because of what they said as being under pressure by the parliament and the judiciary to apply some decisions .

Nujaifi said in a statement received by “Shafaq News " during his meeting with Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of IHEC, Serbst Mustafa , "We understand the concerns expressed by the Commission as a result of conflict between the authorities."

He stressed " the insistence of the parliament on the need to preserve the independence of IHEC and to respect its neutrality and deal with it in ways that keep them away from the pressures of other authorities and political powers without exception ."

The statement added that , the two sides discussed the subject of resignation on the background of the exclusion issues of some candidates , noting that " exclusion measures raised a serious question by the people about how to secure the integrity of the election under this dangerous course “.

Nujaifi stressed , "the need to respect the judiciary’s’ role , the principle of separation of powers and resort the decisions of the Federal Court in the case of any dispute arises in constitutional laws , decisions and its interpretation ."

It is worth mentioning that a number of candidates have been excluded from running in the upcoming elections at the end of next April and has confronted the objections by some political forces , which called on the IHEC to cancel the exclusion measures .
