“There were electoral breaches in Diyala province, specifically in the Kurdish areas, as a large number of people were not allowed to vote,there is a clear targeting to the Kurdish component,” a member of the Alliance MP , Mahma Khalil told ”Shafaq News”.

“Kurds will not allow these violations to pass unnoticed in Diyala, we will demand for an investigation based on credible reports,” he added.

Security sources revealed that a number of angry citizens in Gazzanah area 20 km north of Baquba broke into a polling station downtown area to protest for not allowing them to vote because the voters' names didn’t exist in the lists.

According to the Independent Higher Electoral Commission’s (IHEC) statistics, there are (190) thousand and (696) Kurdish voters in Diyala (107) thousand people are entitled to participate in provincial elections.

Local elections in Diyala were launched on Saturday, amid tight security and a plan implemented by Dijla Operations Command, with the participation of more than 30 thousand security element of various security formations.

382 candidates, including 113 women within 18 different political entities in Diyala province competed in the elections to occupy 29 seats.
