Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemns rockets strikes on the US embassy
Shafaq News / The Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned on Monday the rockets strikes on the United States embassy in Baghdad.
The ministry expressed in a statement today "its categorical rejection and condemnation of the aggression that targeted the United States embassy by Katyusha rockets."
The Ministry stressed its “condemnation of this violent act legally and customarily,” stressing that “it is keen to maintain the sanctity of all diplomatic missions operating in Iraq, in compliance with the provisions of Vienna Agreement to regulate diplomatic relations among countries of the world, and in order to ensure bilateral relations and care for mutual interests of all.” ".
The ministry added that "Iraq affirms that such actions will not affect the strategic relations of between Baghdad and Washington, which is witnessing an improvement to achieve the aspirations of the two peoples."
The ministry continued in its statement that "the relevant security authorities have initiated their investigative procedures to detect the perpetrators and bring them to justice to prevent the recurrence of such violations, which could lead Iraq to be a battlefield for external parties."
The US diplomatic mission has come under several missile attacks in recent months, but Sunday's attack is the second in a week, which is earlier than usual. This is the first time that a direct hit has been announced.
