Iran suspends flights to religious shrines in Iraq

Shafaq News / The Supervisor of the Religious shrines in the Iranian Hajj and Visitation Organization, Muhammad Azad announced on Saturday, the suspension of flights and land travel to religious shrines.

Azad said that "the process of promoting visitors to the holy sites is being discussed with Iraqi officials and will be finalized next Monday," according to Iranian media.

He pointed to "the suspension of land trips to the holy shrines," adding that "and due to the cases of Corona virus infection in the country, the border ports were closed, visitors through border with Iraq were suspended, and of course that the Iraqi citizens can cross from the border points and return to their country ".

About the flights to religious shrines as well, he explained, “sending convoys to holy shrines by air has also been suspended, no visitors will be allowed to head to the holy shrines at all."

He noted that "holding meetings with Iraqi officials with the aim of making a decision about allowing visitors to the holy shrines," noting that "land and air convoys to the holy shrines were suspended from Friday to tomorrow, Sunday."
