IHEC has postponed this year's local elections in Anbar and Nineveh provinces for a month after being conducted in the rest of the provinces except for Kurdistan Region as a result of poor security.

“Talking about this issue is still early to assess the security situation in the provinces that witnessed security tension , IHEC still has four months to whether decide or not to postpone the elections,” IHEC spokesman , Safaa al- Musawi told “Shafaq News “.

Al-Moussawi , said that " the Supreme Security Committee for Elections represented by the Ministry of Interior and Defense and members of the Commission is assessing the security situation to discuss if elections will take place on schedule ."

It is scheduled for the parliamentary elections to take place next April amid escalating violence in the country since the beginning of this year .

Insurgents linked to al-Qaeda launch often violent attacks by car bombs , bombs and weapons to record its highest level of violence since 2008.
