Shafaq News / Parliamentary sources said on Saturday that the leader of "Al-Fateh" coalition, the Secretary General of Badr Organization, has submitted a formal request to resign from the Iraqi parliament.

Al-Amiri submitted a formal request to the parliament presidency to resign, without further details, the sources told Shafaq News Agency.

This comes at a time when a session was held in the Iraqi parliament with the presence of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to vote on the remaining vacant ministerial portfolios.

A parliamentary source said that the quorum for the meeting was achieved with the attendance of 247 members of the parliament from various parliamentary blocs.

The leader of Badr Organization , Abdul Karim Al-Ansari is the alternative candidate for the head of the organization, Hadi al-Amiri in the parliament.

Al-Ansari will formally take the parliamentary oath after the parliament approves Al-Amri’s resignation.
