Farmers mysteriously disappear in disputed area
Shafaq News / Two farmers in the outskirts of Jubara sub-district of Khanaqin district, north of Diyala governorate had mysteriously disappeared on Wednesday, a local source said .
“Two farmers disappeared after they went to their farms last night to harvest wheat in "Tal Naqqar" area, west of Jubara, noting that the farmers had disappeared this morning and did not return home,” The director of the sub-district, Aref Al-Kiji told Shafaq News Agency.
"The security services continue to search for the farmers on the outskirts of the sub-district, and their fate has not been known so far without confirming the involvement of ISIS elements in their kidnapping as details of the incident are vague”.
Al-Kiji affirmed that no burning accidents were recorded for wheat and barley crops this season unlike last season, which witnessed 40 fires, which devoured dozens of dunums of wheat and barley crops, pointing out that the harvest will end soon without accidents.
Jubara is the smallest sub-district in Diyala Governorate, as it belongs to Khanaqin district (about 70 km away from it)with a population of 22,000 people, an area of 16,000 dunums. Its people were subject to displacement and deportation by the previous regime , Kurds constitute about 60% of the population, as most families returned after the fall of the regime to the district in 2003.
