Shafaq News / The director of Al-Zahraa Teaching Hospital, the Covid-19 center in Baghdad, Abbas Al-Husseini, revealed, today Thursday, that the virus may have evolved, leading to a rise in the fatality rate.
Al-Husseini said, in a statement to Shafaq News, that "the critical Covid-19 cases are drastically increasing, leading to a surge in mortality rate. This development is novel, and requires further studies", adding that, "many cases were severe enough to cause mortality even shortly after contracting the virus, which implies that the virus has evolved".
"we are beyond the containment phase. The virus has already spread in Baghdad and other provinces. This is attributed to the violation of the curfew, as the citizens did not properly adhere to the preventive precautions", Al-Husseini continued.
The Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment announced yesterday, Wednesday, that the total number of Covid-19 active cases rose to 8,168; including 3817 inpatients, 46 of which were residing in ICU. Noting that total number of recoveries and fatalities reached 4095 and 256 respectively.
