After being stabbed and left naked... A kidnapped paramedic released in Baghdad

Shafaq News / An Iraqi police source said on Wednesday that an armed group had released a person who provided first aid to the protesters in the capital, Baghdad.

The source told Shafaq News, that an armed group had kidnapped the paramedic, Mohammed Ghassan in Baghdad yesterday.

The source added that the group released Ghassan after receiving several stabs in his body, noting that the kidnapped young man was thrown naked in front of a hospital in the capital Baghdad.

This comes at a time when unidentified gunmen killed at dawn today the protests activist (Ali Al-Lami) in Al-Shaab area north of Baghdad while he was returning from Tahrir Square to his home.

The UN mission to Iraq "UNAMI" had said earlier today that militias had targeted and kidnapped prominent activists in the Iraqi demonstrations.

In its third report on the protests in Iraq released today, UNAMI said it had received credible information that demonstrators and prominent activists had been targeted and arrested by security forces and groups described as "militia."

"Credible information also indicates that security forces arrested people from their homes and vehicles and held them in solitary confinement during the investigation, and their detention may have been on grounds of national security," the mission added.

On the basis of this information, the mission added, "groups that have been described as" militia "have kidnapped at least five prominent activists and demonstrators in Baghdad and held them in solitary confinement in unofficial detention sites for several days while being interrogated."
