Tueller says his country looks forward to improving US-Iran relations

Shafaq News / The US ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller, confirmed on Sunday that his country is looking for balanced Iraqi-Iranian relations that serve both parties, indicating that Washington is seeking to prevent any escalation in the region.

The media office of the National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji said, in a statement that the latter received Tueller in his office in Baghdad, discussed the security and political situations at the regional and international levels, as well as ways to enhance cooperation and maintain relations between Baghdad and Washington, to achieve security and stability in the region.

He pointed out that the two sides discussed the repercussions of Al-Hol camp in Syria, and emphasized the need to find a real and practical solution to the camp's issue.

For his part, Al-Araji stressed that the region needs to rearrange its cards again, indicating that Iraq has always sought and continues to be a point of convergence and rapprochement with all the different parties, in a way that guarantees security and stability to the region and avoids further conflicts.

For his part, the American ambassador indicated that it was agreed with the Iraqi side to quickly follow up on the successful session of the strategic dialogue, stressing that his country seeks no escalation in the regional situation, and that the US is looking forward to normal Iraqi-Iranian relations that serve the interests of all parties.

He said that the Vienna talks with the Iranian side would build bridges of confidence between Washington and Tehran.

Earlier today, Iranian media reported that the Iraqi National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, will arrive in Tehran tomorrow to discuss common issues between the two countries.

Tasnim News Agency stated that Al-Araji will arrive in Tehran tomorrow, upon an official invitation from the Secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security, Ali Shamkhani, to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues.
