The Iraqi government responds to the "Compulsory Military Service" news
Shafaq News / The spokesman for the Prime Minister, Ahmed Mulla Talal, revealed today, Monday, the fact that the Council of Ministers discussed the law on compulsory military service during its regular session.
local reports said that the Iraqi government is currently studying submitting a draft to approve the compulsory service law to the Iraqi parliament.
However, Mulla Talal said in a press conference after the cabinet meeting, "There are no talks inside the corridors of the Council of Ministers regarding the compulsory service law".
The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed yesterday, August 16, 2020, to Shafaq News agency that it did not discuss the compulsory military service law, noting that the government had not sent the law to Parliament, yet.
The Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives had previously announced that the compulsory service law in the country was ready for approval by Parliament and emphasized the importance of this law at the current stage indicating that its approval requires "political will and consensus."
On the other hand, Mulla Talal said that the Council of Ministers decided to grant the Ministry of Electricity direct executive powers, release documents for medical college graduates and form a committee to accommodate higher degree graduates, indicating that major allocations of 2021 budget will be dedicated for this purpose.
