Tehran condemns attacking Ayatollah Al-Sistani by an Iranian newspaper
Shafaq News / The Iranian Ministry of foreign affairs spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, condemned the Iranian newspaper, Kayhan, for attacking Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
Khatibzadeh said in a statement on Monday, "the newspaper has nothing to do with the pillars of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We have special respect for Ayatollah Sistani, and we will not tolerate any abuse of his status".
The director of "Kayhan" newspaper, who is appointed by Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, criticized Al-Sistani's call for UN supervision of the upcoming Iraqi elections scheduled for next June 6.
Khatibzadeh revealed that an Iraqi technical delegation will be visiting Iran during the coming period to discuss the issue of cleaning the Shatt al-Arab and linking the two countries to the railway.
He also denounced the attacks on diplomatic headquarters in Iraq, accusing external parties of masterminding them.
