“National Salvation Project", a new alliance prepares for Iraqi elections

Shafaq News / The head of the "Salvation and Development" Front, Osama al-Nujaifi, revealed, on Wednesday an alliance with the Secretary-General of the “Iraqi National Project”, Jamal Al-Dhari.

Al-Nujaifi said in a tweet, the agreement between al-Nujaifi and Al-Dhari led to form the "National Salvation Project", which is an electoral alliance between the two leaders’ parties.

"The new alliance will be headed by Osama al-Nujaifi, while Jamal Al-Dhari is the secretary general."

Iraq’s cabinet decided to postpone the general election to Oct. 10 from June.

Early elections were a key demand of anti-government protesters who staged mass demonstrations that started in October 2019. 

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said the decision to set a new date to hold an early contest was made to give IHEC enough time to be fully prepared to hold fair and transparent elections.
