MP: a government decision prevented the parliament from holding sessions
Shafaq News / A member of COVID-19 crisis cell in the Iraqi parliament revealed today, Tuesday, that a government decision prevented the Council of representatives from holding its sessions recently.
Abbas Aliwi told Shafaq News agency, "One of the main reasons for not holding parliamentary sessions was the government crisis cell’s reluctance to any gatherings, especially that the number of MPs exceeds 300 and several COVID-19 cases were registered among MPs".
Regarding the number of MPs who tested positive for the virus in the Iraqi parliament, Aliwi said, "There is no official numbers but there are many".
He added, "The Iraqi parliament is currently on a legislative vacation. By the beginning of next month, this vacation ends and sessions will be resumed under strict preventive measures".
