Iraqi security forces back off Al-Tahrir square
Shafaq News / A security source reported, on Wednesday, that riot police stayed away from protestors in Al-Tahrir Square, to avoid any violent contact with them.
The security forces told Shafaq News agency that they had moved away from demonstrations that are taking place in the capital Baghdad and throughout Iraq.
It is noteworthy that Al-Tahrir Square and its surrounding area are witnessing protests against poor public services.
On Monday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi gave the security services 72 hours to announce the results of the investigation into the violence that accompanied the protests in Baghdad.
Furthermore, Al-Kadhimi held a meeting with the head of the National Security Agency, Abdul-Ghani Al-Asadi, and the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, Lieutenant General Abdul-Wahab Al-Saadi.
The meeting discussed the peaceful demonstrations taking place in a number of governorates in Iraq, as al-Kadhimi directed the security forces to provide the required protection for protestors, and never use any kind of violence against them.
