Iraqi PM identifies "major threats,” orders to equip the Border Forces with modern weapons
Shafaq News/ On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, stated that Israel's efforts to expand its aggression in the region represent the "major threats" to Iraq's security and stability.
During his visit to the Border Forces Command in Baghdad, Al-Sudani received a briefing on the activities, tasks, and responsibilities of the Border Guard Forces, progress over the past two years, and a detailed overview of the security situation and the implementation of plans to combat ISIS remnants, organized crime, and drug trafficking, while addressing broader security challenges, according to a statement from his media office.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces commended “the operational and administrative performance of the Border Forces," noting "significant progress in staffing outposts, installing towers, cameras, and barriers compared to previous years,” and describing this as “a notable achievement in addressing diverse security challenges.”
Furthermore, he noted that the Council of Ministers has provided all necessary resources for securing and maintaining the borders, particularly given the “complex” regional security conditions and the repercussions of continued Israeli aggression against Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as its “agendas to expand the aggression, which constitutes one of the major threats to Iraq’s security and stability,” as per the statement.
Al-Sudani instructed officers and commanders “to prioritize the welfare of personnel, ensure fair distribution of duties, and implement regular rotation of forces to sustain optimal mission performance,” directing “the relevant authorities to equip the Border Forces with modern weapons and continue efforts to secure all borders, combat drug trafficking, cross-border crimes, and any violations undermining Iraq’s sovereignty and security.”
