Iraq implements anti-smuggling measures at Shalamcheh crossing

Shafaq News / The Iraqi Ministry of Defense revealed on Friday, that the security forces have established a trench and an earthen berm, to block smuggling roads in the vicinity of Shalamcheh crossing on the border between Iraq and Iran.

A statement issued by the Ministry and received by Shafaq News agency, said, "Basra Operations Command, as directed by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations and Basra Operations Commander, began to secure the perimeter of Shalamcheh crossing", indicating that the operation was carried out, "by constructing a trench and an earthen berm to block roads used for smuggling".

The issue of border crossings had caused great controversy, as they generate huge funds that do not go to the state; Rather, they go the pockets of corrupt individuals and parties, because of the chaos in those borders.
