Iraq asks Germany for "intelligence and technical" support

Shafaq News / The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fouad Hussein called on Wednesday, Germany to continue supporting Iraq by providing intelligence and technical support and training the Iraqi armed forces.

The ministry said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that “Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received today, Norbert Rutgen, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament (Bundestag)” indicating that “the two sides discussed security and political developments in the region, praising the cooperation between Iraq and Germany, especially in fighting ISIS and terrorism,“ and calling on Germany to "continue its support for Iraq by providing intelligence and technical support and training the Iraqi armed forces."

The two sides also discussed, "ways to confront the Corona pandemic, and the possibility of benefiting from the German experience."

The minister reviewed "the Iraqi government's preparations to organize elections according to standards and conditions that restore the Iraqi people's confidence in the viability of political participation,"calling for "the German side to have a consular representation in Basra governorate, due to its economic and commercial importance,” while the German side expressed its support for that.

The minister also thanked the German side and the international coalition to fight ISIS for their positions in support of Iraq in the field of achieving security and stability.
