Foreign Relations Committee: Iraq needs the US-coalition

Shafaq News / The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee believed, on Friday, that Iraq still needs the support of the international coalition to face security challenges and provide technical and advisory support to the Iraqi forces.

The Chairman of the committee, Sherko Mirwais told Shafaq News agency, “Iraq still needs the support of forces in the international coalition, including the United States, due to critical challenges and the Iraqi forces’ need for more technical support to face any security threats, ”praising the role of the coalition in fighting ISIS over the past years.

He added that "the withdrawal of foreign forces from our country is one of our priorities, but the situation needs to wait to preserve the national security of Iraq."

Mirwais considered, "Friends of Iraq, who have provided it with support have priority in strengthening economic and political relations while giving priority to the interest and sovereignty of Iraq."

Regarding Al-Kadhimi's upcoming visit to Washington, the Chairman called on the prime minister to "activate the agreements that are in the interest of Iraq, including the strategic agreement with the United States."

The political parties in Baghdad and Kurdistan are awaiting the results of the second round of "strategic dialogue" negotiations between Iraq and the USA, scheduled to begin on August 20, during a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to Washington to meet US President Donald Trump.
