Dhi Qar elects Al-Hasnawi as new governor

Iraq’s Dhi Qar Provincial Council elected Haider Ghani Al-Hasnawi as governor on Tuesday, replacing Haitham Al-Hamdani, who resigned earlier in the day, a Shafaq News correspondent said.
An informed source told Shafaq News that the 18-member council had voted by an absolute majority to accept Al-Hamdani’s resignation after extensive negotiations over his successor.
Al-Hasnawi, secretary-general of Ammar Al-Hakim’s National Wisdom Movement (Al-Hikma) in Dhi Qar, secured the post over Rafi Al-Shami and Mudhafar Al-Zaidi.
