Shafaq News / The International Coalition announced on Sunday that it had handed over the largest ammunition supply point to the Iraqi authorities.

A statement by the coalition received by Shafaq News stated, "The combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve conducted a Ceremony with Iraq security forces to transfer  the Coalition’s ammunition supply point on Taji base to Iraq, on August 16, 2020," explaining that "the handover process included nearly 50 storage bunkers.

"In 2020, more than $ 11 million of ammunition was delivered to the Iraqi Security Forces as part of the Coalition's Counter-ISIS Train and Equip Fund. Items included mortar and artillery rounds, helicopter attack missiles, grenades and others items. "

"The handover of the ammunition storage site today is an important event as it is a symbol of success of partnership between the coalition and the Iraqi security forces in combating ISIS," the statement quoted Colonel Gregory FiKS, commander of the 34th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade.

He pointed out that "the coalition will continue to maintain a small presence in Taji to coordinate logistical and security operations with the Iraqi security forces."

Since the beginning of this year, the international coalition has handed over 6 military sites to the Iraqi forces, as part of a plan that the coalition says is to re-position and withdraw from camps that contain a small number of soldiers.

The coalition's handover of the camps coincided with the escalation of missile attacks against its forces in Iraq after the assassination of the Iranian Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, in an American air strike near Baghdad International Airport on the third of last January.
