Christians demand election-based representation in Iraq’s new cabinet

Iraq’s Christian Suyana parliamentary bloc on Wednesday rejected “any bypassing of voter will” in distributing ministerial posts, ahead of forming the next Iraqi cabinet led by Ali Al-Zaidi.
MP Kildo Ramzi, speaking at a press conference, stated that while the bloc supports the formation of a government capable of addressing upcoming challenges, any serious effort must be based on “real national partnership and fair representation, without marginalization or deviation from electoral entitlements.”
Ramzi indicated that Christian representation in the next cabinet should reflect actual parliamentary weight produced by the ballot box, not political compromises or arrangements that override election outcomes.
The Suyana bloc holds three of the five parliamentary seats reserved for Iraq’s Christian community. The remaining two seats belong to the Bayloon Movement, led by Rayan al-Kildani. The movement serves as the political wing of the Babylon Brigades —the 50th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF)— and is closely aligned with the Coordination Framework, Iraq’s main Shiite political coalition.
