PM Al-Sudani and Leader Barzani discuss progress in trust-building, KRG government formation
Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani told the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) leader, Masoud Barzani that the government has made great strides in building trust with the Kurdistan Region’s Government (KRG).
Al-Sudani’s media office stated that he congratulated the Kurdistan Region on its successful parliamentary elections, highlighting that this achievement benefits all of Iraq, not only the Kurdistan Region.
He also stressed the importance of promptly forming the new government and sustaining political stability in the Kurdistan Region, which in turn supports Iraq’s broader political stability.
Prime Minister al-Sudani praised “the positive spirit of the Kurdistan Regional Government in addressing shared files with the federal government,” noting that over the past two years, substantial progress has been achieved in building trust and resolving numerous issues, driven by a strong mutual commitment to move past differences.
The meeting also addressed the ongoing discussions among the political forces that won the elections, with the PM expressing his willingness to help align perspectives to accelerate the formation of the new KRG.
“For his part, Mr. Barzani highlighted that Prime Minister al-Sudani’s positive role was a key factor in the success of the elections in the Kurdistan Region. He affirmed that dialogues with Kurdish forces continue toward forming the Kurdistan Regional Government,” the statement pointed out.
The meeting covered the general national situation, regional developments, Iraq’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance, and “its efforts to halt the aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.”
